Introduction of Python

Python is the language which I find better than others. It is a well-designed language with a reasonably clean syntax, a comprehensive standard library, excellent included and third-party documentation. It has widespread deployment, and the immediacy of a “scripting” style language. Although, Python passes with flying colors as a highly reliable technology. Python’s reliability lies in its secure environment, availability of reliable resources, and availability of strong support community in the industry.

 

Try Python and Flying Through Python

Before start to learn python we should know how, when and who create it.  It was released by its designer, Guido Van Rossum, in February 1991 while working for CWI also known as Stichting Mathematisch Centrum. Many of Python’s features originated from an interpreted language called ABC. Rossum wanted to correct some of ABC’s problems and keep some of its features. At the time he was working on the Amoeba distributed operating system group and was looking for a scripting language with a syntax like ABC but with the access to the Amoeba system calls, so he decided to create a language that was generally extensible. Since he had some experience with using Modula-2+, he decided to talk with the designers of Modula-3. Modula-3 is the origin of the syntax and semantics used for exceptions and some other Python features.

In 1989, during the Christmas holidays, he decided to give it a try and design a language which he later called Python.

If you’re wondering why its name is Python. Rossum was a fan of the BBC comedy series from the seventies “Monty Python’s Flying Circus”. So that he named it as Python.

 

Installation of Python

Unix and Linux Installation

You need not to install Python while working on Unix/Linux, because it come with complete python installation. But still if you want to install python’s latest version then you can follow

these simple steps to install Python on Unix/Linux machine.

  • Open link http://www.python.org/download/ in web browser.
  • Download zipped source code available for Unix/Linux.
  • Extract downloaded file.
  • You can edit the Modules/Setup file if you want to customize some options.
  • run ./configure script
  • make install

This installs Python at standard location /usr/local/bin and its libraries at /usr/local/lib/python** where ** is the version of Python.

 

Windows Installation

Here are the steps to install Python on Windows machine.

  • Open link http://www.python.org/download/ in web browser.
  • Download Windows installer python-XYZ.msi file where XYZ is the version of python.
  • Run the downloaded file and follow Python install wizard instructions.

 

Macintosh Installation

You need not to install Python, because Macs come with complete python installation. But still if you want to install python’s latest version then you can visit http://www.python.org/download/mac/ for getting instruction to install python.
